Counselor in Training (CIT) Program at Little Champ Camp
Being a Counselor in Training at Little Champ Camp is a unique opportunity to take part in meaningful, rewarding work. Through this program, you'll learn how to care for children while guiding them toward becoming independent, responsible, and confident young individuals. Join us for an unforgettable and impactful summer experience!
About the CIT Program
At Little Champ Camp, we believe that summer camp plays a vital role in helping youth develop leadership skills that will serve them both at camp and beyond. Our CIT program is designed to help participants build strong communication, coaching, and organizational skills, all while stepping into a leadership role in a supportive and inclusive environment.
There is no fee to participate in the CIT program. While the position is unpaid, participants are eligible to earn community service hours toward their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). Please confirm with your school’s guidance department to ensure hours are eligible.
Participants may volunteer for as little as one week or for the entire summer, depending on interest and availability.
This program is open to students aged 12–17 years old.
Legal Requirements & Safety Guidelines (Ontario Compliance)
To comply with Ontario child care and camp safety regulations, the following measures are in place:
-
Supervision: CITs will never be left alone with a camper. They will always work under the direct supervision of trained staff members (18+).
-
Training: All CITs are required to attend a mandatory CIT orientation and training session prior to beginning their placement.
-
Parental Consent: All CITs under 18 must submit a signed Parental/Guardian Consent Form prior to participation.
-
Code of Conduct: CITs must adhere to a clear Code of Conduct and behavioral expectations, consistent with our camp policies and Ontario workplace safety guidelines.
-
Health & Safety: CITs will receive basic health and safety training, including emergency protocols, acceptable touch, inclusion, and respecting boundaries.
-
Screening: While police record checks are not legally required for volunteers under 18, CITs aged 16–17 may be asked to complete an Offense Declaration. A brief character reference may also be requested.
-
Swim Participation: CITs are expected to participate in swim times and help supervise campers from outside the pool (unless certified for water supervision).
-
Hours Tracking: We provide an official record of volunteer hours upon request.
